Coffea arabica — or Arabica coffee — is a species of coffee that accounts for about 60–70% of the world’s coffee production. The plant is a tropical evergreen shrub or small tree that grows to about 2.5–4.5 meters tall, although it is often pruned during cultivation to make harvesting easier.
➜ Lighting. Prefers bright, indirect light, but tolerates partial shade.
➜ Temperature. Optimal range 15–24°C. Avoid temperatures below 12°C.
➜ Humidity. Arabica coffee is of tropical origin and likes high humidity. Optimal humidity is above 60%.
➜ Watering. Water moderately, after the topsoil has dried out. Avoid overwatering.
➜ Fertilizers. During active growth (spring-summer): Use liquid fertilizer every 2–4 weeks. Nitrogen-containing fertilizers are preferred, which promote leaf growth.
➜ Transplantation. Usually required once every 2–3 years, in early spring.
